Utilization of Biophenols from Olea Europea products-Olives, virgin oil and olive mill waste water”. Bio-Olea ETPC “Greece-Italy 2007-2013 Related Projects
The aim of the activity carried out in the Bio-Olea project will be related to the extraction, separation and characterization of polyphenols compounds present in Olive mill waste water (OMWW) paying particular attention at contribute of cultivar, place of cultivation and harvesting. Will be utilized OMWW coming from Italian and Greek olive mills. After biochemical characterization using HPLC, the raw OMWW will be processed with a laboratory-scale system for the recovery of polyphenols. The total phenolic content of the OMWW and fractions will determined using a spectrophotometric method. This approach will produce phenolic compounds that are then tested by other project partners for their antioxidant and antimicrobial activities and can then be used for various applications such as natural no-toxic antioxidants.
